Rutgers University will let gay students – as well as those with opposite sex partners or ‘platonic’ friends – choose either male or female room mates to bunk up with, starting this Autumn. New Jersey’s largest university is to allow men and women to share dorm rooms in a bid to make the campus more inclusive for gay students. More than 100 undergraduates in Demarest Hall, New Gibbons and Rockoff Hall will have the option of selecting a room mate of the opposite sex, campus officials said. According to university officials students will be given the option of choosing a room mate of either sex. Undergraduates will not be asked to reveal if they are gay. Under the new arrangements, bathrooms will be shared, with individual shower cubicles fixed with doors instead of curtains.
